Kansas 66

66 only goes through Kansas for 13 miles, through the small railroad towns of Galena and Baxter Springs.  Betwixt the two, however, is a rainbow arch bridge.  Of three along the route originally, only one remains. 

A gentleman by the name of Dean “Crazy Legs” Walker was helping the fire department clean the bridge today.  Apparently he is very involved with 66 preservation, and Mater in the Disney Movie “Cars” was based on him. 

We received a cornucopia of brochures and information from him about 66 Westward.  So voluminous was his knowledge, it was tough to keep up – but he had some great tips.  We felt like we met a true 66 celebrity.
